Who are your customers and why do they pay you money?
Organizations with frontline worker employees who deal with lots of exceptions and need live communication, they pay us money to meet the organization needs for security and administration.
When should I hear from someone regarding my application?
You should receive an email confirmation when your application has been submitted, and we’ll review your candidacy as quickly as possible. You should expect to hear back from us within a week of applying.
Where is Zello located?
Zello is located in Downtown Austin TX at 1717 W 6th St. near El Arroyo and the Mean Eyed Cat.
How is Zello responding to the Covid-19 pandemic?
Our team has been working remotely since March 2020 and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. We look forward to returning to the office when it is safe, and we will evaluate a return date based around Austin’s city guidelines. Until then, we’re enjoying getting to know our coworkers’ pets and kids over Zoom, and bonding through virtual social events like our company book club, Among Us games, trivia nights, and more.
When you interview candidates, are there red flags you keep an eye out for?

How should somebody dress for an interview?
A good rule is to dress slightly better than what typical work attire is, which for us is usually t-shirts and jeans. We’d recommend a professional button down shirt or dress, but a suit is not necessary.

What does the interview process look like?
While we admit that the interview process will differ from job to job, but generally speaking, we start with a 30 minute phone interview with our recruiter, followed by a video interview with the hiring manager, and finish with a longer panel interview by video. We also will run a reference and background check as we finalize the interview process. Our interview processes are organized around evaluating a candidate’s ability to create the defined outcome of the position, as written in the job description.

We are a group of independent thinkers who value creative collaboration between teams to accomplish our ambitious goals. What will new hires experience in their first 30 days?
New hires will be welcomed to the team and provided with all the tools they need before their first day. You can expect to spend the first week getting to know your teammates, learning our product and systems, and completing hands-on training with a buddy in your department. You’ll be introduced to coworkers across the company, attend a product meeting, join our social events, and dive into your work. By the end of your first month, you’ll feel totally at home, and prepared to be productive!
How do you measure the success of individual team members?
Success is outlined quantitatively by the employee’s individual manager, and is structured within the needs of the team. All team members have regular 1-on-1 meetings with their managers to understand progress toward these goals. Individuals have quarterly objectives that are tied to their team’s overarching goals. Success in these objectives is measured by progress toward key results that are defined at the start of each quarter.

Many at Zello stay at the company long enough to receive their 6-week sabbatical vacation that happens at 5 years of employment. We find that our talented professionals appreciate the opportunity to grow their careers through continued education and challenging development of their on-job skillset.

How does the team recognize good work?
We believe in recognizing the great work our team members do in the ways that mean the most to them. From shout-outs in weekly team updates and our #spasibo channel (that’s “thank you” in Russian!) to feedback in manager 1:1s and performance reviews, we make sure our employees know when they’re doing a great job, and we reward them with greater opportunities.
What are the hours like and is remote work permitted?
Most teams have flexible hours, although the nature of some roles requires more structured days. This is a full-time job and we expect full-time work results, but we encourage employees to work at their best rhythm. Right now, we are all working remotely due to the pandemic. When it’s safe to return to the office, we expect you’ll work there with the team most of the time. We value the collaboration and team atmosphere that in-person work fosters.
