What’s new

With this update, Apple’s Push to Talk (PTT) Framework is on for all Zello users on iOS. The release also includes improvements to Bluetooth PTT button reconnection, Off-Duty Mode notification behavior, and clearer dispatch call status on the talk screen.

Push to Talk Framework

Apple’s Push to Talk (PTT) Framework is now always on for Zello users on iOS, making Zello more accessible across the device. With the PTT Framework enabled, users get access to the PTT Shortcut, which lets them send and receive messages from the lock screen, reply through a heads-up display while using other apps, and see who’s talking without switching back to Zello.

Starting with iOS 26, Apple requires all push-to-talk apps to use the PTT Framework, so it’s automatically enabled and always active for Zello users on iOS.
A short tutorial walks users through the PTT Shortcut on first launch.
Two behaviors worth knowing: push notifications need to stay on for text messages and photos to come through in the background, and tapping "Leave" disconnects you from Zello until you reopen the app. See our support article for details.

Dispatch call interface

The talk screen now shows clearer status for dispatch calls, with updated "In Queue" and "Active" indicators and a redesigned end call button.
Unread message badges now take priority over dispatch call status indicators, and status badges display correctly on both the Recents and Channels tabs.

General improvements

The app now reconnects more reliably when returning from the PTT Framework after being in the background.
Bluetooth PTT buttons now reconnect more reliably, with smarter scanning and progressive retry intervals for failed connections.
Off-Duty Mode now correctly silences all notifications when the app is in the background.

Bug fixes

Fixed an issue where the PTT overlay displayed "Zello User" instead of the actual username after toggling airplane mode.
Fixed an issue on iPad where the back button and profile icon became unresponsive after leaving a channel talk screen.

What’s new

This update introduces a redesigned status menu, adds dispatch call status indicators for drivers, and shows an unread message counter on the Recents tab. It also includes iPad and Bluetooth PTT improvements.

Feature updates

Status menu

Status can now be changed from a new dropdown menu by tapping the profile icon. This menu also includes a link to the full Profile screen.
The status dropdown is also accessible directly from the talk screen.
The "Messages silenced" state now appears in the status dropdown when messages are temporarily silenced.

Dispatch indicators

Drivers using Dispatch channels now see "Active" and "In Queue" indicators on the Recents and Channels screens, making it easier to track dispatch call state without opening each conversation.

General improvements

The Recents tab icon now shows an unread message counter, making it easier to notice missed messages when on other tabs.
Bluetooth PTT accessories now transmit more reliably immediately after the app moves to the background.

What’s new

This update improves PTT transmission and background connection reliability, and resolves issues with Bluetooth PTT accessories, dark theme on older iOS versions, and message history.

General improvements

PTT transmissions now connect more reliably, reducing instances where a busy tone played despite no one else transmitting.
Background connection stability on Wi-Fi has been improved, reducing the likelihood of missed incoming messages.
Bluetooth PTT accessories no longer trigger false disconnect notifications while the accessory remains connected and functional.
1:1 messages are now queued for delivery when the app is launched without a network connection.

Bluetooth automap

Zello now automatically detects and maps PTT buttons on compatible Bluetooth accessories when they connect. No manual configuration is required. Admins can control this behavior from the Management Console.

General improvements

The "Waiting for connection" banner now clears when a message is sent or received.

What’s new

This update improves the history screen experience, along with updates to profiles, channels, and audio behavior.

General improvements

The History screen now opens to the latest messages so the Summarize option is visible.
The History screen will no longer jump when opened.
Tapping “View profile for user” now opens the user’s profile page instead of the channel profile page.
Users already in the channel will no longer appear in the “Add users” list for that channel.
Voice messages will no longer be cut short in channels or appear shorter in history.
The “ready to send” sound will no longer be cut off when using a wired accessory and pressing the on-screen Talk button.

The indicator that appeared while talking to Ella has been removed when the Ella screen is visible.
The Ella talk button has been restyled.

Missed messages

Missed message counters across Recents, the Talk screen, and Message History now stay in sync and decrease as messages are viewed. Viewing all messages for a contact or channel clears its missed counter, and the global counter decreases accordingly.
Tapping the X on a missed-message banner now permanently dismisses it and reduces both the missed-message count for that contact or channel and the overall missed-message total.
Tapping a missed-message banner now jumps to the first missed message, clears the banner, and reduces the missed-message count for that contact or channel as well as the overall total.
Viewing missed messages now lowers the missed-message count. A message must be viewed for at least two seconds before it no longer counts as missed.
Messages sent in an ad-hoc channel to a busy user are now correctly counted in the missed-message total.
The colors of the top and bottom missed-message indicators on the History screen have been updated.
Missed message counts now properly decrease after offline messages are downloaded, and all offline messages are now correctly reflected in the total.

Fixed an issue where audio recording with wired accessories stopped when Zello moved to the background mid-message.
Resolved a problem that could cause users to become stuck in a listening or open mic state.
Sending a message on a busy channel using a wired accessory will no longer trigger an unintended open mic state.
Fixed an issue where the PTT button on wired accessories failed to record messages after the device was left idle for several minutes.
Fixed an issue where activating PTT from the lock screen with certain accessories immediately after receiving another user's message incorrectly played the "Ready to send" tone and showed recording, though no audio was captured.
Immediately opening Zello after a reboot will no longer result in a blank, black screen.
Deleting a message from history no longer causes the previous message to briefly disappear.
