v7.13.2

Minimum supported version: Android 7.0

What’s new

This update introduces Silent Alert Notifications for emergency messages, expands hardware accessory support, and includes bug fixes and stability improvements.

Feature updates

Silent Alert Notifications

  • Admins can now turn on Silent Alert Notifications, which mute the incoming emergency tone, the auto-played voice message, and the notification sound on receiving devices, while keeping vibration, the on-screen alert, and message history intact. This is the receiving-device counterpart to Silent Alert Activation (which silences the alert on the sender’s device). The setting is off by default and is configured from the Zello management console under Common → Emergency Alerts, either globally or per user template.
  • Emergency messages now trigger a new, more attention-grabbing vibration pattern on receiving devices. This vibration plays for all emergency receives — even when Silent Alert Notifications are turned off — and works even when the device is set to Do Not Disturb or Silent mode.

General improvements

  • Admins can now assign Ella, Zello’s AI assistant, to the multifunction key on supported USB-C accessories, giving users a hands-free way to reach her. In the console’s Multifunction Key Assignment setting, select AI Assistant.
  • Open Mic Detection now applies at the Standard level by default across networks, automatically ending unintended silent transmissions. Admins can change or turn off this behavior in the management console.
  • Added support for the Pepperl+Fuchs Smart-Ex 203, so its built-in PTT button now works while Zello is in the background or the screen is locked.
  • Added out-of-the-box support for the RAM Mounts USB Remote Speaker Mic.
  • App content now displays edge-to-edge on devices using 3-button navigation, matching the behavior already in place on devices using gesture navigation.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a visual glitch where starting a recording in a channel with AI Message Summaries enabled could briefly reveal an extra history item at the bottom of the screen.
  • Fixed an issue where a sign-out notification could appear after an error occurred while adding an account.
  • Fixed a rare crash to improve overall app stability.

v7.12.1

Minimum supported version: Android 7.0

What’s new

This update introduces Silent Alert Activation for Emergency Alerts, along with improvements to the history screen, bug fixes, and stability improvements.

Feature updates

Silent Alert Activation

Admins can now enable a silent emergency alert, giving associates a discreet way to request help without drawing attention and letting Zello serve as a silent response button. When enabled, triggering an Emergency Alert produces no audible or haptic feedback on the sender’s device, while recipients are still alerted normally.

  • When an alert is triggered, countdown tones, transmission sounds, and vibration are removed on the sender’s device, though the on-screen countdown remains visible.
  • The setting is configured in the management console under Common → Emergency Alerts, where it can be applied globally or per user template, and is off by default.
  • For more detailed instructions on enabling this setting, see our support article. You can also see how Silent Alert Activation helps retailers meet New York’s silent response button requirement.

General improvements

  • The floating date header on the history screen now behaves more smoothly and predictably while scrolling.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where signing in to Zello Work could fail when the server was configured on a non-default port.
  • Fixed an issue where an ad-hoc conversation could remain in the Recents tab after a shift ended.
  • Fixed an issue where deleting an account could leave you on an empty Accounts screen instead of returning to the Welcome screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the Everyone channel was not restored as the last active contact after relaunching the app.
  • Fixed an issue where location markers could fail to appear on the map.
  • Fixed some crashes to improve overall app stability.

  • Fixed an issue where the problem-report text field could appear cleared after submitting feedback.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent some notifications from being displayed.
  • Fixed a crash that could affect users with many active channels on Android 14 and later.

What’s new

This update improves live audio playback on poor network conditions and adds support for a new push-to-talk accessory, along with bug fixes and stability improvements.

General improvements

  • Live audio playback now recovers more quickly on networks with packet loss or congestion, and returns to normal timing as soon as conditions improve. This is now available to all users.
  • Added support for the Jabra Perform 10 (MFi variant) as a recognized push-to-talk accessory.
  • Improved app stability and reduced crash loops affecting a small number of devices.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a floating PTT button could remain in the “receiving” state and not switch to “transmitting” when the user started sending while an incoming message was still active.
  • Fixed an issue where the sender's name was displayed twice in the title bar for incoming one-to-one messages.
  • Fixed an issue where the selected contact could change unexpectedly when sending an image or location if an incoming message arrived during the process.
  • Fixed an issue where users on MDM-managed devices could not pair Bluetooth push-to-talk buttons such as AINA.
  • Fixed a rare crash that could occur when the persistent Zello notification updated in the background.

v7.8.0

Minimum supported version: Android 7.0

What’s new

This update resolves issues with the inactivity timer, hardware PTT accessory behavior, in-app language switching, and the trial admin support request form.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a hardware PTT button press could re-trigger transmissions in a loop after a previous message ended in brief silence on some wired headsets.
  • Fixed issues with the inactivity timer that could cause the app to close unexpectedly on startup or repeatedly after the timeout fired.
  • Fixed an issue where some menu items and settings labels did not update immediately after changing the in-app language. The app no longer requires a restart to fully apply the new language.
  • Fixed an issue on the in-app support request form where the Submit button could be hidden behind the bottom sheet on some devices.

v7.7.1

v7.7.0

Minimum supported version: Android 7.0

What’s new

This update introduces Open Mic Detection on Android and includes improvements to reconnection speed and microphone handling, along with some bug fixes.

Feature updates

Open Mic Detection

Zello can now detect and automatically end unintended silent transmissions on Android, matching the capability already available on iOS. When enabled by a network admin, the app monitors active transmissions for sustained silence and ends them after a configurable period.

  • Three sensitivity levels available: Aggressive, Standard, and Relaxed
  • Audio cue plays when a transmission is ended automatically
  • On-screen PTT methods are excluded from automatic termination

General improvements

  • Zello now reconnects faster after brief connectivity interruptions, getting back online in seconds instead of performing a full sign-in.
  • On Android 10 and later, Zello now handles scenarios where another app is using the microphone more gracefully, removing the “disabled mic” indicator.
  • Notifications are now properly silenced when “Silence Messages” is enabled, including for text, location, alert, and photo messages.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed an issue where a Bluetooth LE accessory could not be re-added after being removed during a manual scan.
  • Fixed an issue where tapping “Add users” from an ad-hoc conversation displayed an unexpected error.
